Family-Based Visa Sponsorship
Anybody seeking a visa based on a family relationship must be sponsored by that relative. If you are a U.S. citizen, you can petition for your spouse, children under 21, and parents if you are at least 21 years old. You can also sponsor your unmarried children over 21 and their children, your married children and their families, and your siblings and their families, provided you are at least 21. If you are not a resident but have a green card, you can petition for your spouse, children under 21, and unmarried children over 21. The priority for these family members varies, with U.S. citizens generally having higher priority than permanent residents.
